Foundry designs creative software technologies used to deliver award-winning visual effects and 3D content for the design, visualization and entertainment industries. Foundry’s software advances the art and technology of visual experience in partnership with creative leaders across the globe. It enables clients like Pixar, Mercedes-Benz, Google, ILM, Weta Digital, The Moving Picture Company and Sony Pictures Imageworks to turn incredible ideas into reality, by solving complex creative challenges.

Established in 1996, Foundry is headquartered in London, with offices in Manchester, Los Angeles, and Silicon Valley. Foundry products, used on almost every blockbuster in recent years, include the industry-standard compositor Nuke; the Ocula stereo toolset; Mari 3D paint system, created at Weta Digital; Katana lighting and rendering solution developed with Sony Pictures Imageworks; Hiero workflow management tool; and Flix, a collaborative story development hub. Flix is a leading story development hub for animated film and TV, gaming and more. Designed to promote fast paced creative collaboration, it is the tool of choice for Sony, Dreamworks, Warner Bros and Laika. In 2013, Flix won the HIPA Engineering Excellence Award for Creativity and Innovation. In 2012, The Foundry merged with Luxology, adding the ‘modo’ renderer to the portfolio. The Foundry now has approximately 190 employees – including 115 in R&D.

The company has an outstanding record in both EU and UK collaborative R&D projects (e.g. TSB: DREAM, i3DLive; Innovate UK: PIC, Design Cloud, FAME, ALIVE, DIVIDE, ASAP; FP7 i3DPost, Dreamspace).

Foundry has won many technical Oscars over its lifetime, and their visual effects tools are behind numerous Oscar nominated films including La La Land, Arrival and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
